As of now the product listings do not seem to be all in place, in other words, we have a product description complete with details and images but nothing just yet in terms of pricing. Though, it seem that will likely change sooner than later.
Otherwise, the WD Elements Play is going to be available in two storage capacities — 1TB or 2TB. And even before we dive into any of the other features, the having either 1000 or 2000GB of storage space is a nice starting point. That said, lets cover the rest of the specs which include 1080p video playback as well as SPDIF and Dolby Digital support. Connectivity includes HDMI, composite (RCA) and USB 2.0.
File support comes in the form of H.264, RMVB and MKV for video, MP3 and AAC for audio and JPEG image files. The WD Elements Play also includes support for a wide variety of languages as well as DVD navigation with menu navigation, chapter listings, special features and subtitles.
Other goodies include the ability to add extra USB hard drives as well as being camera compatible which will allow for direct connections to a digital camera of camcorder. Lastly, the WD Elements Play measures in at 1.6 (H) x 8.9 (W) x 5.9 (W) inches.
All things considered, the WD Elements Play seems like it could be a nice addition to a home theatre setup. After all, 2TB of storage space will allow for a decent amount of content. Of course, once you start adding HD quality files that 2TB will go quickly. With that, we will have to leave the final decision of value in the air until we learn the pricing.
